Unusual Silver 24 Hour Dial Lever

A late 19^th Century Swiss lever with unusual 24 hour dial in a gilt open face case. Keyless gilt split three quarter plate movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, uncut balance with overcoil hairspring. Club foot lever escapement. Unusual dial, signed gilt mask with twelve circular apertures and seconds subsidiary, blue steel hands. The apertures in the mask either show black Roman numerals from one to twelve or red Arabic numerals thirteen to twenty four on a white enamel ring. The indication is changed by depressing a button in the pendant. Engine turned gilt open face case, vacant oval cartouche on the back.

Engraved cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. English table roller lever escapement. White enamel dial with centre seconds, Roman numerals, Arabic numerals for the chronograph, blue steel seconds hand, gilt hands. Plain silver open face case, silver cuvette, gilt crown. A button at 3 o’clock stops the second hand allowing the watch to continue running. The button at two o’clock returns the second hand to twelve. Recent red morocco covered case lined with red velvet.

Compensation balance employing quarter timing nuts, blue steel overcoil hairspring. English double roller lever escapement, screwed in jewelling, escape and lever pivots with endstones. Slide minute repeating on two polished steel gongs. Signed and numbered white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Very substantial plain 18 carat full hunter case, recessed gold slide, gold bow. Five joint hinges, double flysprings to the front cover. Maker’s mark “FT” in an oval. Signed red morocco covered presentation case lined in purple velvet.

Unusual Night Light Watch Holder

An unusual late 19^th Century German watch holder and night light in the form of a gas lamp post. Cast square base and body. The square lamp at the top of the post with clear glass candle holder. The cast hipped roof pierced to allow a small candle to burn inside. Small wire hook just below the lamp to hang the watch. (Watch not included)

A most interesting and unusual piece. It is doubtful that the candle would have lasted the whole night. As a modern replacement a small LED could probably be used in its place

Plain cock with polished steel regulator. plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Plain nickle open face case, the back engraved with the cartoon character Ally Sloper above ” A. Sloper. F.O.M.” (Friend of Man). The cuvette engraved “ally Sloper's Half Holiday.

These watches were given as prizes by the British comics magazine, Ally Sloper's Half Holiday. Published weekly from 1884 to 1916 by “The Sloperies”, 99 Shoe Lane, London.

Large Musical Silver Hunter

A late 19^th Century Swiss musical watch in a large silver full hunter case. Keyless nickelled musical movement with very large going barrel playing at will or on the hour. Nickelled pinned barrel with polished steel comb of 30 graduated tignes. Under this a circular gilt keyless cylinder watch movement offset towards the pendant. Puce enamel dial decorate with musical instruments, offset white chapter with Roman numerals, gilt hands. Substantial large silver full hunter case, glazed clip on cuvette to reveal the mechanism, lateral silver slide in the band to play the music. Both the musical and watch movements are wound by the crown. When the pin above the crown is depressed the watch is wound, when not, the music is wound.
