About

HISTORY

Founded by Jonathan Wachsmann in 1973, Pieces of Time has been the foremost name in the antique timepiece market for nearly 50 years. Alan Grant joined the business in 1983, sharing Johnny’s love for antique watches and innovation. Our mail order catalogue was amongst the first to reach collectors and dealers not only in the UK but worldwide. We then launched antique-watch.com in 1995 when “online shopping” was in its infancy. From launch, our site quickly became the largest specialist antique watch site on the Internet – a position it retains to this day, nearly three decades later. Since those early days, people have become more accustomed to shopping online and our catalogue is well respected. To date we have published over 100 catalogues (approx 3 times each year) and, for ease of reference, our site lists many interesting sold watches accompanied by over 17,000 images.

We have hundreds of pocket watches on display in-store, and hundreds more movements are available from our extensive collection. Our shop is located in London’s Grays antiques complex, home to one of the world’s largest and most diverse collections of fine antiques and collectors’ items, with many specialist stores. The complex is situated in London’s Mayfair only a few yards from Bond Street Station and close to Oxford Street and the world-renowned Claridges Hotel.

Pieces of Time is a member of the prestigious British Antique Dealers Association (BADA) and the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors (NAWCC). We attend many antique and watch fairs around the world, meeting with our international clients who may be interested in specific items for their collection or looking to sell items to Pieces of Time.

All items appearing on our website are guaranteed to be in full working order and as described. Customer satisfaction is very important to us and we pride ourselves in ensuring that each of our customers is delighted with their purchase. We are also pleased to offer our part exchange guarantee – we’ll give you the full purchase price of your items to be exchanged for any items purchased from our store or website.

All items are shipped in our specially designed Airboxes and are fully insured from the moment they leave our store until they safely reach their destination. Standard shipping is free on items over £500 and a flat fee of £20 is charged on all other items. Worldwide delivery is available and FEDEX can be arranged for an extra charge of £30 upon request.

Who’s Who at Pieces of Time

Johnny Wachsmann began his career in horology in 1971 and started trading independently in 1973. Johnny is the proprietor of Pieces of Time and responsible for purchasing the pieces that appear in our catalogue and on our website. Johnny is married to Linda and they have five children & Grandchildren.

Alan Grant became interested in antique watches in 1970 and joined the Pieces of Time family in 1983. Alan is predominantly involved in watch restoration and producing the Pieces of Time catalogues. He is also a technology enthusiast, particularly within the antique trade, and is the webmaster of antique-watch.com. Alan is married to Alison and they have three children & grandchildren.

Marc Wachsmann has been working at Pieces of Time since 2000 and is Johnny’s eldest son. Marc is responsible for serving our customers in-store, responding to our large volume of email queries and sourcing new items for the website and catalogue. Marc will be assuming responsibility for Pieces of Time when Johnny starts winding down his involvement.

Lynette Joseph has worked at Pieces of Time for 35 years as Johnny’s PA. Lynette also co-ordinates our catalogue and website and ensures that all orders reach their destination with zero fuss. Running the office when Johnny is away on business trips, Lynette is the lynch pin of our office. Lynette is married to Peter and they have three children & Grandchildren.

“Admiral” Nelson Wachsmann is the office’s very lazy British Bulldog, he is semi-retired, but still comes in occasionally. He spends most of the day asleep under the desk, occasionally wakes to greet customers and is very popular in the Grays complex. Any customers who can manage to get him to go for a walk will receive a 10% discount.
