Silver Champleve Dial Verge with Enamel
An early 18th Century continental calendar verge with silver champleve dial in repousse silver pair cases set with an enamel scene. Deep full plate fire gilt movement with decorative baluster pillars. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Winding through the pierced and engraved bridge cock, pierced and engraved plate for the silver regulator disc. Plain gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Silver champleve dial with arcaded minute ring, Roman and Arabic numerals. Silver centre signed “Decour – London”, rectangular date aperture, decorative pierced gilt hands. In the centre of the back a fine polychrome enamel circular plaque depicting a classically dressed couple.
In excellent overall condition, the repousse work on the outer still crisp. It is surprising to find a different name on the dial which may in fact be the true maker, rather than the deceptive one engraved on the movementCirca 1720£5,200.00 Read more
