Description
A fine large early 20th Century freesprung English lever deck watch and box. Gilt three quarter plate keyless movement engraved with the broad ministry arrow. Plain cock with diamond endstone. Freesprung compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. English table roller lever escapement. Screwed in jewelling, escape and lever pivots with endstones. Signed and numbered white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Substantial plain silver open face case with extended hand set. Gilt winding button, plain silver cuvette, maker's mark “ATO” in an oval and number corresponding to that on the movement. The back engraved “H.S. 2”, front bezel made without a recess for a glass. Mahogany deck box originally constructed as three tier and converted to two. Signed, numbered circular bone plaque marked with the broad ministry arrow on the top lid. Secured in a brass drum by a glazed brass screw bezel.
