Description

A large rare 19th Century Swiss quarter repeating musical cylinder in a gold open face case.  Gilt movement with an unusual going barrel musical train, the pins set in the wall of the mainspring barrel acting on a set of individual blue steel tinges.  Resting barrel for the going train with polished steel stopwork.  Plain sector cock, polished steel coqueret and regulator, plain gilt balance with spiral blue steel hairspring, polished steel cylinder, small brass escape wheel.  Pendant quarter repeating on two polished steel gongs.  The repeating train under a separate bridge, polished steel repeating work situated under the dial.  Small button in the band to actuate the musical mechanism.  Fine engine turned gold dial with Roman numerals, blue steel Breguet hands.  Engine turned 18 carat open face case with ribbed middle, gold push pendant for the quarter repeat.  Wound and set through the gilt metal cuvette which is engraved with musical notation, hands and an arrow for the relevant squares.
