Description

An early 19th Century Swiss quarter repeating musical watch with cartouche dial in a gold open face case.  Gilt movement with two resting barrels, the larger barrel, being half the diameter of the movement, providing the power for the musical train.  Repaired sector shaped cock, polished steel coqueret and regulator.  Plain gilt balance with spiral spring, polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel.  Polished steel work on back plate to control the disc type musical train.  Pendant quarter repeating on two steel gongs, the repeating work situated under the dial.  Lateral slide in the band to actuate the musical mechanism.  The music also playing automatically on the hour.  Gold dial with engine turned centre, enamel minute ring and cartouches of Arabic numerals separate by engraving and blue enamel half hour markers.  Fine blue steel serpentine hands.  Substantial engine turned gold open face case, ribbed middle, plain gilt cuvette with apertures for winding and hand set.
