Description

A mid 19th Century keyless English lever with offset subsidiary seconds in a gold half hunter case.  Gilt three quarter plate keyless movement with  with steel Nicole patent winding work.  Engraved cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring.  English table roller lever escapement, escape and lever pivots with endstones.  Signed and numbered white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds offset at nine o'clock, Roman numerals, blue steel half hunter hands.  Engine turned 18 carat half hunter case with blue enamel chapter ring.  Clip on back with small engraved monogram,  ribbed middle, maker's mark “AN” in an oval and number corresponding to that on the movement.

Nicole Nielsen manufactured for many of the eminent watchmaking firms in the second half of the 19th Century.  Adolphe Nicole took out the patent for keyless winding number 10,348 in 1844.
