Description

A small early 19th Century English verge made for the Turkish market in a gold and enamel pair case.  Full plate fire gilt movement with fusee and chain, Egyptian pillars with galleries above.  Pierced and engraved cock with crescent moon and star on the table, garnet endstone, pierced and engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc with Turkish markings. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring.  Signed white enamel dial with Turkish numerals, gold beetle and poker hands.  Gold pair cases, the plain inner with 18 carat mark, maker's mark “AN” and number corresponding to that on the movement.  The outer with blue, green, red and white champleve enamel to the bezels, the wavy closing faces also with blue champleve enamel.  Polychrome enamel lakeland scene with a water powered mill in the foreground.  Translucent blue and pink sky over a radiating engine turned ground.  Border of translucent red enamel over an engine turned ground.
