A fine early 18th Century English calendar verge with gold champleve dial in gold pair cases.

Description

A fine early 18th Century English calendar verge with gold champleve dial in gold pair cases.  Deep full plate fire gilt movement, Egyptian pillars with pierced galleries above.  Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Pierced and engraved winged cock with mask, pierced and engraved foot.  Plain steel balance, silver regulator disc. Signed gold champleve dial, small circular aperture below the centre to reveal the date.  Roman and Arabic numerals, tulip and poker hands. Matching plain gold pair cases, inner with split pendant and circular shutter to the winding aperture, gold pendant and bow engraved with initials. Plaiin gold outer case with seven joint hinge, maker's mark “W.I” and number corresponding to that on the movement.

A fine example of a gold champleve dial verge with the added feature of a calendar which is not commonly found on English watches.   John Bushman, free of the Clockmakers Company1692-1725.  The casemaker's mark is for William Jaques.
