Description

An early 19th Century English verge with an unusual form of windmill automaton in silver pair cases.  Full plate fusee movement with round pillars.  Pierced and engraved round cock, gilt  regulator on top plate below the plain three arm steel balance.  Rare polychrome enamel dial depicting a church on the left indicating the time on a clock in the tower, Roman numerals, gilt hands.  On the right a windmill, the engraved gold sails rotating rapidly counter-clockwise as they are mounted on a pinion which is driven be an extra set of teeth on the edge of the contrate wheel.  Plain silver pair cases, wound and set from the back, the aperture for the setting indicated by an engraved pair of hands.  Silver pendant and bow, maker's mark “CS” in a rectangle.
