Description

An unusual late 17th Century English verge, the silver champleve dial with sector for regulating the watch in silver pair cases.  Deep full plate fire gilt movement with Egyptian pillars.  Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Pierced and engraved winged cock with mask, pierced and engraved foot.  Plain steel balance.  Signed silver champleve dial, blue steel and gilt sector of a disc visible below the twelve for regulating the watch with a female square.  Roman and Arabic numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands.   Silver pair cases, plain inner with split bezel, silver pendant and later ring bow, maker's mark “LD”.  Plain outer with seven joint square hinge.

A rare variation allowing the watch to be regulated through the dial.  The shaft of the disc runs through the hollow centre of the mainspring barrel arbor.  A pinion on the upper end acts on the rack to adjust the effective length of the hairspring.  Casemaker's mark for Louis Derumaux
