A fine late 19th Century Swiss quarter repeating lever in a silver open face case.

Description

A fine late 19th Century Swiss quarter repeating lever in a silver open face case.  Keyless nickelled bar movement with makers mark “G.M -B” within a representation of a ring.  Going barrel with polished steel wolf's teeth winding wheels.  Plain cock with polished steel regulator,  compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring.  Club foot lever escapement, escape and lever pivots with endstones in gold settings.  Slide quarter repeating on two polished steel gongs, the train jewelled to the hammers. White enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, unusual blue steel hands.  Substantial plain silver open face case with gold hand set, hinges, thumb piece and gilt winding button.  Back and silver cuvette signed for the French retailer marked “Argent 0.900”, silver slide in the band.  The back well engraved with a double headed eagle holding a sword and orb, crown above and centred by a heraldic shield.
