Description

A fine mid 18th Century English centre seconds verge in silver pair cases.  Full plate fire gilt movement with signed and numbered gilt dust cover.  Pierced and engraved masked cock, silver regulator disc. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring.  Lateral steel stop lever operating on the escape wheel. White enamel dial with centre seconds, Roman numerals, gold beetle and poker hands, later gilt minute hand. Substantial matching silver pair cases, silver pendant and bow, maker's mark “D*B” in a rectangle.

In excellent overall condition.  Centre seconds watches of the period are uncommon.  Most were made with cylinder escapements but this one is rare in having a verge.  There were also few makers in Manchester, this is a low numbered example
