Description

A mid 19th Century English lever with memorial dial in a silver open face case.  Full plate gilt keywind fusee movement with dust cover.  Harrison's maintaining power. Engraved cock with diamond endstone, plain three arm gold balance with blue steel spiral hairspring.  Polished steel regulator, silver sector index.  English table roller lever escapement, escape pivots with endstones.  Unusual white enamel dial with small subsidiary seconds, the numerals replaced by the name “Charles Jones” and marked “Deceased 1894”, blue steel hands. Engine turned silver open face case, maker's mark “TG”.

In good overall condition, the faded engine turning bearing witness to years of careful use.  This is the first dial we have seen marked in this manner.  It would appear that on the death of Charles Jones the watch was passed down to someone, probably a son, who decided to have a new dial made in memoriam of its previous owner
