A late 18^th Century verge in a stone set three colour gold consular case. Full plate fire gilt movement with round pillars. Pierced and engraved cock, silver regulator disc. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Wound through the white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, stone set hands. Attractive 18 carat continental consular case. The back engine turned and decorated with applied three colour gold decoration, the scene framed by an oval border of white stones. Two colour gold bezel also set with a single row of white stones.

Unusually this continental case and dial uses an English movement. It shows no signs of being a replacement, the dial feet occupying the original holes in the plate. It may be the original customer specified an English movement be used or alternatively the English watchmaker imported the case and dial.

An 18^th Century English verge with subsidiary seconds in gilt metal pair cases. Full plate fire gilt movement with turned pillars. Pierced and engraved cock, silver regulator disc. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Lateral steel stop lever acting on the contrate wheel. White enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, and Arabic numerals, blue steel hands. Gilt metal pair cases, gilt pendant and bow, the inner bearing marks intended to resemble hallmarks.

An early example of a verge with subsidiary seconds. Although some makers introduced watches with seconds shortly after the balance spring was introduced the practice was largely abandoned as the verge escapement was not accurate enough. The seconds subsidiary on this watch is not exactly at 6 o'clock, its position dictated by the contrate wheel pinion

An unusual late 18^th Century English centre seconds cylinder by Brockbanks in a pearl set gold and enamel consular case. Full plate fire gilt movement with fusee and chain. Pierced and engraved cock with small chased and engraved bust on the table, diamond endstone, silver regulator disc. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, large steel escape wheel. Winding through the signed gold centre seconds dial, subsidiary chapter above the centre with Roman numerals for time. Matted centre with engraved decoration, blue steel hands. Gold consular case, the bezels set with a row of large split pearls. Unusual cloisonne enamel back, black ground with translucent polychrome enamel over engraving forming foliate decoration. Button in the pendant to open the sprung front bezel.
