A fine large late 18th Century half quarter repeating duplex by Grant in a silver open face case.

Description

A fine large late 18th Century half quarter repeating duplex by Grant in a silver open face case.  Full plate fire gilt movement with signed and numbered gilt dust cover pierced to reveal the diamond endstone and silver regulator disc.  Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Pierced and engraved cock, diamond endstone in a blue steel setting.  Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring.  Screwed in jewelling including the fusee arbor in a blue and polished steel setting.  Duplex escapement, large brass escape wheel and jewelled locking roller, pivots with endstones.  Push pendant half quarter repeating on two polished steel gongs fitted in the band of the case.   Fine white enamel dial with Roman numerals, attractive gold hands. Substantial purpose made plain silver open face case with gold hinges and thumb pieces.  London hallmark for 1906, maker's mark “F.T” in an oval and “London” below.

An impressive watch in excellent overall condition.  The fine case was made by Frederick Thoms of Spencer Street, Clerkenwell who was usually used for chronometers and deck watches of the period
