Description

A fine late 19th Century English minute repeating lever in a gold full hunter case.  Gilt half plate keyless movement with raised going barrel.  Plain cock with polished steel regulator, diamond endstone.  Compensation balance with timing nuts at the quarters, blue steel double overcoil hairspring.  English double roller lever escapement, screwed in jewelling, escape and lever pivots with endstones.  Slide minute repeating on two polished steel gongs. White enamel dial made by Willis, subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands.  Substantial plain 18 carat full hunter case, gold cuvette with engraved dedication.  Recessed slide in the band for the minute repeat, maker's mark “FT” in an oval.

A fine usable watch in excellent overall condition.  It benefits from the desirable features of an English watch of the period having a dial made by Willis and a case made by Frederick Thoms.  It is interesting to note that Thoms also worked in Spencer Street, Clerkenwell.  In 1889 he moved into number 41, later transferring to number 25
