An 18th Century French verge with a fine gilt and enamel dial in a two colour gold consular case.

Description

An 18th Century French verge with a fine gilt and enamel dial in a two colour gold consular case. Full plate fire gilt fusee movement, finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three arm steel balance with blue steel spiral hairspring.  Silver regulator dial with blue steel indicator.  Pentagonal baluster pillars.  Winding through the fine signed engraved gilt dial. The inner chapter of Roman numerals on a ring of joined raised enamel cartouches, the outer Arabic numerals on another set joined by a band of enamel at the edge.  Triangles of translucent green enamel divide the numerals.  Pierced and engraved gold hands.  Gold consular case with applied chased and engraved two colour gold decoration.

Le Roy occaisionally used dials of this design on watches made for the Turkish market.  This is the first we have seen with Roman and Arabic numerals
