Description

A late 19th Century Swiss quarter repeater with concealed erotic scene in a gold full hunter case.  Nickelled split three quarter plate keyless movement with going barrel.  Plain cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring.  Club foot lever escapement.  Slide quarter repeating on two steel gongs, cam and lever to drive the automaton above the plate.  White enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands.  Plain 18 carat full hunter case, gold slide in the band.  The gold cuvette made in two parts conceals the scene,  the upper part engraved with details of the movement.  The false gold cover opens to reveal an erotic scene on an enamelled gold plate with a line drawn scene of a lake and distant mountains. The polychrome enamel figures of a hunter and young woman engaged in an amorous encounter spring to life when the repeat mechanism is activated.
