Description

An early 19th Century English verge with unusual named and dated dial in silver pair cases.  Full plate fusee movement with fusee and chain.  Attractive cock pierced and engraved in a close pattern of concentric circles.  Unusual regulator, the square in a blue steel disc, a blue steel indicating to an index on the plate.  Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Rare white enamel dial, the numerals replaced by “W. Ashmore. 1803”, probably the original owner's name, blue steel hands.  Matching silver pair cases, silver oval pendant and bow, maker's mark “WH” in a rectangle.

Watches which have the numerals replaced by the owner's are not common but this is the first we have seen which includes the year
