A late 18th Century English quarter striking verge clockwatch in silver pair cases.

Description

A late 18th Century English quarter striking verge clockwatch in silver pair cases.  Full plate fire gilt movement with round pillars.  Pierced and engraved cock, pierced and engraved plate for the silver regulator disc. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring.  Petite sonnerie striking on a bell in the case, hours on the hour and quarters only at the other quarters.  White enamel dial with and Arabic numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands.  Silver pair cases decoratively engraved and pierced to allow the bell to sound clearly. Steel “Strike / Silent” lever in the bezel, silver pendant and bow.  Outer case with large central cartouche, rubbed engraving reading “Willm Newby – Clock Maker – Kendal”, maker's mark “TC”.
