Men’s Spring Style Guide

One of our favourite things about spring is that we can ditch our chunky knitwear and winter coats and start to pick out lighter airier clothing that compliments the season.

It can be hard to know what to wear at this time of year and what trends to follow. To avoid a potential fashion faux pas, we’ve given you six tips on how to be stylish in spring below.

Smart White Trainers

Any stylish man should have a pair of smart white trainers and we don’t mean the pair you use for 5-a-side football every Thursday after work. A pair of stylish white trainers go with everything from a nice fitting crisp blue suit to the casual weekend wear of jeans, t-shirt and leather jacket. They will never go out of fashion so it’s worth investing as much money as you can. Plain white converse are a great budget-friendly option, but should only be worn when the weather is dry as they stain easily and this will ruin your look.

Striped Jumper

A striped jumper is a subtle print but one of the longer lasting men’s fashion staples that was much loved by James Dean, and let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to dress like James Dean? Breton stripe has gained in popularity the last few seasons and looks set to be even bigger this year. Combine with a plain t-shirt, fitted smart trousers and your white trainers for a look that suits any occasion.

A Watch

No stylish gent walks around bare wristed at any time of the year. Men’s mechanical watches will make any outfit stand out from the crowd this spring. For those wanting to up the style stakes when something more formal is required you should opt for an antique pocket watch for a fashion statement with a purpose. The only downside is that you’ll be getting questions about your fabulous timepiece all night long!

Wool Knitwear

Whilst the chunky knitwear goes back into the cupboard until next winter, the lighter wool garments should be welcomed back with open arms. Whilst spring is technically here, it still likes to test us by putting a chill in the air as the sun starts to drop. Wool, merino wool and cashmere jumpers in neutral tones such as grey, off-white, charcoal and black are a great addition to any wardrobe. Whilst light and breathable, they still provide excellent insulation properties keeping you cool when you need to be and warming you up as the temperature drop.

Oxford Shirt

An Oxford shirt is a classic men’s style staple that all men should have in their collections. A good quality and well-fitting Oxford shirt can be worn in any situation; smart, causal, business meeting, after work drinks or even a casual spring time country walk. Opt for simple cuts and colours such as white, plain stripes or even duck egg blue for a look that shows you care.

Brown Leather Boots

A good pair of brown leather boots are the perfect spring time accessory. You can give them a polish and combine with jeans and a crisp shirt for a night out with your loved one or chuck them on for you Sunday stroll. You should aim for a high-quality pair such as the boots offered by Timberland or Red Wing, and whilst you are spending more, you’ll be rewarded in the long run as they will last a lifetime given the correct care.

Blazer

When it comes to sporting a blazer in spring, opt for a jacket that is lighter and unstructured as you’ll be able to put on layers underneath. You can wear a light grey hooded jumper or a merino wool turtleneck underneath when the weathers a little chilly out.
