White enamel dial, blue Arabic numerals, gilt minute markings and decoration, gilt hands. Very small open face case diamond encrusted overall. The back pierced to set the concentric circles of graduated diamonds. Plain white gold cuvette gilded on the inner face, trefoil diamond set bow. In a fitted gilt tooled square leather box.

A small late 19^th Century diamond encrusted watch and matching pendant. Fitted with a later oval nickel movement under a cover. Plain three arm balance with spiral hairspring. Club foot lever escapement. Gilt dial with Arabic numerals, gilt hands. Very small open face case diamond encrusted overall. The back pierced to set the concentric circles of graduated diamonds. Plain white gold cuvette, trefoil diamond set bow. The watch suspended from a diamond set gold brooch in the form of a tied ribbon.

Horn Singing Bird Box

A late 19^th Century French automated singing bird in a polished horn box. Brass going barrel movement keywound through the base. Small bellows and piston mechanism provides air to a variable whistle to mimic birdsong operated by a system of cams and levers. The bird covered with multi-coloured feathered plumage, iridescent highlights to bib and wings. Moving the gilt lateral slide on the front of the box causes the oval lid to open and the bird to hinge into an upright position, rising through chased and pierced gilt grille. While playing the automated bird moves its bone beak, flaps its wings and moves from side-to-side, synchronised to the continuous birdsong. Polished horn box, a compartment at the back with a hinged horn lid. Oval gilt hinged cover to the bird engraved with a bird in a foliate engraved border.

A large late 19^th Century Swiss centre seconds chronograph in an English silver open face case. Gilt three quarter plate keywind movement with going barrel. Engraved cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. Club foot lever escapement. White enamel dial with centre seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel seconds hand, gilt hands. Large English plain silver open face case with slide in the band to stop the watch. Plain back with vacant oval cartouche, wound and set through the silver cuvette, maker's mark “LJ” in a rectangle.

Unusual Silver 24 Hour Dial Lever

A late 19^th Century Swiss lever with unusual 24 hour dial in a gilt open face case. Keyless gilt split three quarter plate movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator, uncut balance with overcoil hairspring. Club foot lever escapement. Unusual dial, signed gilt mask with twelve circular apertures and seconds subsidiary, blue steel hands. The apertures in the mask either show black Roman numerals from one to twelve or red Arabic numerals thirteen to twenty four on a white enamel ring. The indication is changed by depressing a button in the pendant. Engine turned gilt open face case, vacant oval cartouche on the back.

An unusual late 19^th Century Swiss lever centre seconds chronograph in a silver open face case. Gilt three quarter plate keyless movement with going barrel. Engraved cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. English table roller lever escapement. White enamel dial with centre seconds, Roman numerals, Arabic numerals for the chronograph, blue steel seconds hand, gilt hands. Plain silver open face case, silver cuvette, gilt crown. A button at 3 o’clock stops the second hand allowing the watch to continue running. The button at two o’clock returns the second hand to twelve. Recent red morocco covered case lined with red velvet.

White enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Arabic numerals, blue steel hands. Plain gunmetal open face case with gilt repeating button, hand set, hinge, thumb piece, winding button and bow.

Plain cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. English table roller lever escapement. Signed and numbered white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel half hunter hands. Plain 18 carat half hunter case with blue enamel chapter ring. Gold cuvette, maker’s mark “JW” in an oval and number corresponding to that on the movement.

Unusual Night Light Watch Holder

An unusual late 19^th Century German watch holder and night light in the form of a gas lamp post. Cast square base and body. The square lamp at the top of the post with clear glass candle holder. The cast hipped roof pierced to allow a small candle to burn inside. Small wire hook just below the lamp to hang the watch. (Watch not included)

A most interesting and unusual piece. It is doubtful that the candle would have lasted the whole night. As a modern replacement a small LED could probably be used in its place

Plain cock with polished steel regulator. plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Plain nickle open face case, the back engraved with the cartoon character Ally Sloper above ” A. Sloper. F.O.M.” (Friend of Man). The cuvette engraved “ally Sloper's Half Holiday.

These watches were given as prizes by the British comics magazine, Ally Sloper's Half Holiday. Published weekly from 1884 to 1916 by “The Sloperies”, 99 Shoe Lane, London.
