Description

A late 18th Century french verge in a fine gold and enamel open face case set with pearls and diamonds.  Full plate gilt fusee movement, the edge of the plate with a narrow band of engraving.  Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring.  Silver regulator dial with gilt indicator.  Unusual attractive signed white enamel dial with Roman numerals at the quarters and very small Arabic numerals for the other hours.  Fine pierced cathedral gold hands.  Gold and enamel open face case, the sprung front bezel open by a button in the rectangular gold pendant which bears the number of the movement on the side.  The back of translucent dark blue enamel over a radially engine turned gold ground bordered by gilt and white decoration.  In the centre a geometric pattern of gilt, white and iridescent green enamel set with small diamonds.  The bezels set with double rows of split pearls.

An attractive watch in excellent overall condition apart from a small repair at the edge of the dial.  Gold and enamel watches by Guex are found in a number of famous collections and museums.
