French Gold and Enamel Repeater with Chatelaine
A fine late 18th Century French quarter repeating cylinder with calendar in a gold and enamel consular case and matching chatelaine. Full plate gilt fusee movement, signed and numbered gilt dust cover pierced for the endstone and regulator. Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock, diamond endstone in a polished steel setting, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Blued regulator dial with gold indicator. Polished steel cylinder, large steel escape wheel, pivots with screwed in jewelling. Push pendant dumb quarter repeating on blocks in the case. Signed white enamel dial with central day of the month calendar in red Arabic numerals. Black Arabic numerals for the hours and quarter minutes, blue steel calendar hand, gold beetle and poker hands. Raised brass edge to the dial signed “Gregson”. Fine and unusual gold and enamel consular case with hinged bezel and back cover both set within a recess of the body of the case with no discernable sign of a hinge. Opening either of them reveals the hinges to be set close to the movement. The small crescent of the bezels beyond the hinges moves below the recess in the body of the case. Two small recessed pins at three o’clock to open them independently. The bezels decorated with white and dark blue translucent champleve enamel. Oval cartouche of a floral bouquet finely painted in polychrome enamel. Border of dark blue translucent champleve enamel representing a ribbon tied in a bow at twelve. Fine matching chatelaine, the gilt clip faced with gold and enamel floral scene. Similarly decorated cartouche attached to the clip by a hinge. The watch secured to this by a swivel sprung gold clip with threaded safety collar. Two small gold and enamel cartouches also hang from the clip, each with a matching double sided gold and enamel key, one lacking the shaft. Recent black morocco covered fitted display box. Lined in red velvet, the chatelaine visible through the glazed lid, easel stand.

A small late 18th Century French quarter repeating cylinder in a gold and enamel consular case and chatelaine. Full plate gilt fusee movement with gilt dust ring. Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock, garnet endstone in a polished steel setting. Plain three arm steel balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Silver regulator dial with blue steel indicator. Polished steel cylinder, large steel, escape wheel. Push pendant quarter repeating striking on two blocks in the case. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, decorative pierced gold hands. Raised engraved brass edge to the dial signed “Ageron”. Gold and enamel consular case with gold push pendant and stirrup bow. Radially chased back with a circular polychrome enamel centre of floral decoration on a blue ground. Gold and enamel chatelaine. Hinged gilt clip to the buckle, polychrome ovals scene of cherubs on a blue background. Suspended from the buckle are three broad chains, decorated with translucent blue enamel oval shaped cartouches, and four fine pierced chains with diamond shaped cartouches. Central rectangular gold and translucent blue enamel cartouche centred by a small rectangular polychrome enamel scene of a reclining cherub within a border of split pearls. Three broad chains with translucent blue enamel oval shaped cartouches are supported by the cartouche, the centre one for the watch, the others for double sided gold and enamel oval decorations. The two long outer broad chains terminate in a key and a seal set with a plain cornelian both mounted on swivels and decorated with blue and white enamel.

A late 18th Century English verge in a gold and enamel consular case with matching ratchet key. Full plate fire gilt fusee movement. Pierced and engraved cock, large diamond endstone in a blue steel setting, pierced and engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Winding through the signed white enamel dial, Roman and Arabic numerals, gold beetle and poker hands. 22 carat gold and enamel consular case, the bezels with a scalloped pattern of translucent dark blue and white champleve enamel. The back of translucent dark blue enamel over an engine turned ground. Navette shaped polychrome enamel garden scene of a mother and two children within a white champleve enamel border. Round gold pendant and stirrup bow, maker’s mark “I.W”. Fine gold Breguet style ratchet key, the ring with dark blue champleve enamel. Short gold chain, a hinged gold clip with threaded safety collar at one end and small spring clip at the other.

A late 18th Century English verge in silver and underpainted horn pair cases containing three watchpapers from the maker. Full plate fire gilt fusee movement with round pillars. Pierced and engraved masked cock, diamond endstone in a blue steel setting. Engraved plate for the silver regulator disc. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Flat white enamel dial with Roman numerals, decorative gilt hands. Plain silver pair case, round silver pendant and bow, maker’s mark “T.P” in a rectangle, hallmark date letter not legible. Outer case covered in underpainted horn secured by silver pique pin, silver bezels. Three watchpapers in two designs all bearing the name of the original watchmaker.

Wound through the signed white enamel dial, Arabic numerals, gold beetle and poker hands. Gold consular case, sprung front bezel opened by depressing a button in the gold pendant. Front and back bezels set with a single row of large split pearls. The back of translucent green enamel over a line engine turned ground. Geometric gilt decoration.

Rare Skeletonised Quarter Repeating Cylinder
An unusual late 18th Century Swiss skeletonised quarter repeating cylinder in a silver open face case. Slim keywind skeletonised gilt movement with blue steel bridges with polished steel oil sinks visible through the dial. Gold crossed out wheels for both going and repeat trains. Gilt suspended going barrel pierced and engraved on the dial side to reveal the blue steel spring. The blue steel spring for the repeating also visible under a blue steel bridge. Crossed out gold motion work. Polished steel bridge cock, polished steel regulator below the plain three arm gold balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. Push pendant quarter repeating, visible polished steel repeating work above the plate. Two polished steel hammers visible from the front striking two steel gongs under the dial. White enamel ring dial, glazed centre in a gold bezel, Arabic numerals, blue steel Breguet hands. Engine turned silver open face case, wound and set through the sprung glazed cuvette with gilt metal bezel.

Large Silver Automata Verge
A large late 18th Century verge with automated scene in silver pair cases. Full plate gilt fusee movement. Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with large blue cabochon endstone in a gilt and polished steel setting. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring, elaborate polished steel regulator marked “Advance – Retard”. Pentagonal baluster pillars. White enamel dial, the offset chapter of Roman numerals with Arabic numerals at the quarters. Fine decorative gilt hands. Around the chapter a polychrome enamel scene depicting a forest scene of a stag being chased. An oval aperture in the lower half of the scene reveals disc with figures of stags, hunters and dogs painted on it. As the watch runs the figures pass across the oval representing a hunt. Large plain silver pair cases, long silver pendant and bow.

Engraved cock with diamond endstone in a polished steel setting, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Earnshaw type spring detent escapement, the detent mounted on a long curved gilt arm to allow fine adjustment by a screw. Escape pivots with endstones. Signed and numbered white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel seconds hand, gilt hands. Purpose made engine turned silver open face case hallmarked London 1839. Maker’s mark “CBH” and number corresponding to that on the movement.
