Antiquorum’s auction of “Important Modern and Vintage Timepieces” brought a total of HK$30.8 million, or £2.57 million, at the beginning of February in Hong Kong, headlined by several Patek Philippe specimens, the auctioneer has revealed.
The top lot of the sale was the Patek Philippe, a platinum wristwatch with a unique double dial featuring black and silver Roman numerals, which achieved $530,071 (£44,300).
Also a highlight of the sale was an extremely rare and collectible antique pocket watch: the Patek Philippe, with a unique enamel miniature portrait, “Grandfather with sleeping granddaughter” by Suzanne Rohr, in yellow gold. After some reportedly intense bidding, it fetched $328,876 (£27,466).
Elsewhere, other rare enamel pocket watches, particularly those made for the Chinese market, also achieved good results. The Bovet Fleurier Bouquet enamel pocket watch sold for $83,831 (£7,001); the Hope Brother Co. yellow gold pocket watch with minute repeater achieved $41,816 (£3,481), more than six times its estimate; and the J. Ullman & Co. Chinese market carillon Grande Sonnerie enamel pocket watch with minute repeater fetched $61,261 (£5,116).
And a Chanel “Night and Day” diamond and sapphire lady’s wristwatch with yellow and blue sapphire and diamond with integrated bracelet went for $99,827 (£8,337).
