A fine mid 17th Century oval English verge made for the Turkish market. Large full plate fire
gilt movement with elaborate pierced and engraved pillars. The top plate of the watch covered
with a decorative pierced and engraved silver mask. Fusee and gut, the blue steel ratchet and
click mainspring setup between the plates. Three wheel hand cut train. Pierced and engraved
oval cock secured by a screw. Plain two arm steel balance without hairspring. Gilt chapter ring
with Turkish numerals over a similar decorative pierced and engraved silver mask, fine single
blue steel hand with long tail. Oval silvered case with an inner removable shell. The case
decoratively chased and engraved in typical Turkish style.

A rare example to purchase a pre balance spring watch. The movement undoubtedly dating from
the middle of the seventeenth century, in remarkably original and fine condition. However the
case may not be original, although it could be, having been later decorated in the late 17th
Century in Turkey. Alternatively it may be entirely manufactured in Turkey for the movement.

Full plate fusee movement with bayonet fit gilt dust ring. The balance is located under the
calendar dial and the regulation effected by a subsidiary on the dial. Centre seconds transfer
work und the conventional dial, the seconds hand situated between the hour and minute hands.
Signed white enamel dial with subsidiaries for time dial with Roman numerals, gold beetle and
poker hands. Three further subsidiaries for date, moonphase and regulation of the watch. Within
the moonphase subsidiary are four red representations of the moon at the quarters, blue steel
hands. The other white enamel centre seconds dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, gold
beetle and poker hands, blue steel seconds hand. Substantial gilt metal consular case glazed on
both sides. The bezels set alternately with clear and ruby pastes. Lateral steel stop lever under
the front bezel.

A fine early 19th Century Swiss verge in a reversible gold and enamel case. Full plate gilt fusee
movement. Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three arm gilt
balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Silver regulator dial with Turkish characters, blue steel
indicator. Round pillars. Gilt dial, enamel minute ring and cartouches with Turkish numerals,
blue steel Breguet hands. Reversible gold and enamel case of thin proportions. Inner consular
case with split button pendant allowing either the back or the front bezel to be opened. The inner
may be placed in the outer to show either the dial or in the form of a hunter watch to show the
enamelled back of the inner case. The scene on the inner case extremely fine in polychrome
enamel of a lake, the suns rays being formed by translucent enamel over an engine turned ground.
Surrounding this scene a magenta ground with eight green cartouches of floral decorative motifs.
The inner dome of the case also enamelled in light blue and white with engraved decoration. The
outer case with a similar small central scene, the wide border of scalloped panels which continue
onto the front bezel. The panels of alternating translucent red and blue enamel polychrome
designs of flowers or musical instruments. The inner faces of the case also decorated in light
blue enamel.

A very fine example of Swiss enamel work where almost every surface has been decorated.
Although originally intended to be reversible we have not been able to obtain a glass of suitable
height. Therefore to be able to reverse the case the glass must first be removed.

A 19th Century Swiss cylinder in a fine diamond set gold and enamel note and card case. Slim
arched rectangular gilt keywind bar movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel

hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, steel escape wheel. Small circular white enamel dial with
Roman numerals, blue steel hands. The watch wound from the front, the hands set by a square to
the side of the dial. Fine rectangular cartouche shaped gold engine turned and engraved card
case. Inside a hinged pair of butterfly spring to hold visiting cards and two further hinged slots to
hold note paper. At the base a receptacle for a pencil (now lacking). The watch concealed under
a gold lid decorated in dark blue enamel and set with diamonds in a floral pattern.

An unusual early 19th Century Swiss quarter repeating automaton verge in a gold open face case.
Full plate fusee movement. Sector shaped cock with engraved foot, garnet endstone in a polished

hairspring. Pendant quarter repeating on two gongs. Unusual form of automated dial, the white
enamel chapter larger than normal and offset toward six o'clock above the blue enamel ground.
Arabic numerals, fine blue steel and gold hands. Either side of the chapter are finely chased and
engraved parcel gilt figures of two monkeys sitting on columns. As the watch strikes the hours
and quarters the arms of the monkeys move as though striking the bells between them. Eighteen
carat gold open face case with scalloped middle, the engine turning on the back radiating from a
vacant oval cartouche set at the lower edge. Gold oval push pendant, winding through the gilt
metal cuvette.

A rare early 19th Century Swiss Father Time Automaton in a gold open face case. Full plate gilt

Rare form of automaton, the gilt dial with repousse decoration, offset enamel minute ring and
Arabic numerals in enamel cartouches. At the top of the dial an aperture through which can be
seen a blue steel ground. Seated in the centre a chased and engraved repousse figure of Father
Time holding two scythes. As the pendant is depressed two cupids move towards the figure. As
the watch strikes the hours and quarters the arms of the cupids move as though striking the
blades of the scythes. When the watch has finished striking the two cupids disappear under the
dial. Engine turned 18 carat open face case with ribbed middle, gold push pendant. (No
cuvette).

the front cover. There are two marks on the winding crown which are lined up with the cover to
be opened when it is depressed.

A 19th Century Swiss duplex with a mock pendulum dial in a silver open face case made for the
Chinese market. Keywind gilt bar movement with richly engraved plate, symmetrical bridge and
suspended going barrel. Polished steel regulator, polished steel three arm balance with three blue
steel affixes, spiral hairspring. Crab tooth duplex escapement. Unusual polychrome enamel dial
with a small offset chapter and centre seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. The offset
chapter is made to appear to be the face of a blue and gilt mantle clock. At its base an aperture
through which can be see a blue steel disc which oscillates giving the effect of a pendulum bob.
In the background a Swiss scene with a water wheel, log cabin, lake and mountains in the
background. Engine turned silver open face case, vacant central cartouche. Silver cuvette
inscribed "DUPLEX Pendulum Colandre & Schner Geneve".

54 RARE PERPETUAL SELF WINDING SWISS CYLINDER UKP 2600
A rare early 19th Century Swiss cylinder with self winding mechanism in a gold open face case.
Reversed full plate gilt movement with going barrel. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel
spiral hairspring situated under the dial, adjusted by a square on the backplate. Polished steel
cylinder, brass escape wheel. Rare perpetual winding mechanism similar to that employed by
Breguet. The weight is attached to an arm supported mid-way between the limits of its
oscillation by an adjustable spiral spring. Strong polished steel buffer springs stop the weight at
the full extent of its travel. As the weight falls it winds the mainspring to which is geared by a
high ratio train. A block is set on a thread at the top of the mainspring arbor and raises polished
steel detent. When the watch is fully wound this locks the weight and prevents the mainspring
being broken. No provision is made to wind the watch manually. Purpose made engine turned
gold dial. Applied gold Roman numerals and two colour gold decoration at the centre and edge,
blue steel Breguet hands. Purpose made plain 18 carat open face case with chased bezels and
pendant. Number corresponding to that on the movement and maker's mark "F&K".

hands. Engine turned 18 carat full hunter case with ribbed middle, a vacant shield shaped
cartouche on the front cover. The watch has the appearance of being keyless as it has a winding
crown. This is the detachable key: It pulls out of the pendant and may be used to set the hands or
wind the watch. Inscribed on the inner dome as a presentation to William Wynn in January 1879
in South Africa. Maker's mark "PW" in an oval and number corresponding to that on the
movement.

"Chronometre No. 15588 Prime par l'Etat en 1'ere Classe au Concours de l'Observatoire
