fire gilt movement with Egyptian pillars. Unusual pierced and engraved winged and masked
cock, large diamond endstone in a blue steel setting and two extra steady feet. Silver regulator
disc on a pierced and engraved plate. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup
between the plates. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Signed gilt
champleve dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands. Gilt metal
consular case covered in horn underpainted with a decorative pattern of fern with a central oak
tree. rotating gilt shutter to the winding aperture.

Devereux Bowley 1710 Clockmakers Company 1718 Master 1753. Maker of Repute. The
movement of this watch is in outstanding condition. The additional steady feet were rarely used
and seldom survive the attention of later watch repairers who often cut them off. The horn
covering is probably a later decorative replacement as it is mid 18th Century in style.

Signed silver champleve dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, blue steel hands. Plain silver inner case with silver pendant and ring bow. The outer with silver bezels and covered in tortoiseshell decorated with silver pique work and a line engraving of a church inlaid with silver.

This watch is unusually large and heavy. It would seem unlikely that it was intended for personal
use due to its size and weight. It may have been intended for use on a carriage or was perhaps
used by Barwise to demonstrate his workmanship to prospective clients.

14 GUN METAL MYSTERY WATCH UKP 1690
A late 19th Century Swiss mystery watch in a gunmetal case. The gilt cylinder movement is
relegated to the crescent shaped portion of the watch between the glass dial and the pendant.
Keyless with going barrel, small plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring,
polished steel regulator. Glass dial with gilt Roman numerals, engine turned silver masks. The
gilt hands are driven by a second glass disc which has a toothed wheel attached to its outer edge
that engages the train. The motion work for the hands is set between this glass disc and the dial.
There is no provision to set the hands apart from moving them manually, which is common in
these watches. Plain gunmetal case with gilt bezels and bow, glazed back and front. Button in
the band to release the sprung front cover.

links from which are supported a small casket shaped pomander and a key. Hinged gilt loop
secured by a threaded ring to hang the watch.

Liverpool window jewelling to the pivots including the fusee in a large blue steel setting. Plain

barrel setup ratchet and spring. Lateral steel stop lever. Attractive three colour gold dial with an
eagle chased and engraved at the centre. Subsidiary seconds, applied gold Roman numerals, blue

bow. The back cover depicting two large sailing ships, a fort standing on cliffs in the
background. On the front cover an eagle perched on crossed flags bearing stripes. The inner

gilt movement, large pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three arm steel
balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Silver regulator dial with blue steel indicator. Round
pillars. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Push pendant
quarter repeating on a bell. Winding through the fully restored white enamel dial with Roman
and Arabic numerals. Fine pierced gold hands, a section of the minute hand raised to clear the
winding square. Gold consular case pierced to allow the bell to sound clearly. Fully restored
enamel decoration, the back with a finely painted scene of a courting couple being disturbed in a
rose garden.

A fine late 18th Century quarter repeating cylinder by Emery in a gold full hunter case. Full plate
fire gilt movement with round pillars. Pierced and engraved bridge cock with diamond endstone,
silver regulator disc on large richly engraved gilt plate. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel
barrel setup between the plates. Small plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring.
Push pendant quarter repeating on two steel gongs. Purpose made white enamel dial with Roman
numerals, gilt hands. Substantial purpose made engine turned 18 carat full hunter case with
engine turned middle. Gold push pendant, the front lid released by a lateral gold slide. Maker's
mark "TW" and number corresponding to that on the movement, hallmarked London 1822.

Josiah Emery London - born 1725, died 1797. Native of Geneva. Emery was one of the leading makers working in London in the late 18th Century. He was one of the earliest makers to adopt and develop the lever escapement. It is believed he was the first to introduce
d draw to the pallets.

An early 19th Century Swiss quarter repeating automaton verge in a silver open face case. Full
plate fusee movement. Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock, diamond endstone. Silver
regulator dial with blue steel indicator. Pendant quarter repeating on two gongs. Silver engine
turned dial with a central small enamel dial of Arabic numerals, small gilt hands. Either side of
this are chased and engraved three colour gilt classical figures. As the watch strikes the hours
and quarters the arms of the figures move as though striking the bells. Silver open face case with
rope middle and engraved back, silver push pendant, gilt metal cuvette.

49 GILT METAL CHATELAINE UKP 550
An 18th Century continental chatelaine. Chased and engraved gilt waist buckle hinged to a
similarly decorated section from which are suspended five chains. These support another chased
and engraved plate attached to which is a hinged loop secured by a threaded ring. Two further
chains with similar loops are suspended from the waist buckle, one with a small gilt locket.

50 CUT STEEL CHATELAINE UKP 700
A fine 18th Century English cut steel chatelaine. The sections of the chatelaine are formed from
pierced steel to which have been rivetted facetted polished steel pieces to resemble cut stones.
Suspended from the large waist buckle are five chains, the outer four holding two double sided
swivel seals, a seal with a coat of arms and a fine crank key. The centre chain is consists of two
larger pierced steel sections supporting another which has a sprung loop and threaded safety ring
for the watch.

two green bi-planes. The propeller of one aircraft is mounted on the seconds pivot and so rotates
as the clock runs. Small Arabic numerals, pierced blue steel hands. Enclosed in a glass sphere in
two halves mounted in nickel bezels, the back glass with a flat portion allowing the clock to
stand on a table.

gongs. Signed silvered dial with luminous Arabic numerals, luminous hands. Rectangular silver
case with rounded top standing on four silver ball feet. Decorated in translucent blue enamel
over an engine turned ground, polychrome flowers at the corners. A broad button at the side to
operate the minute repeat mechanism. The clock wound and set by a crown in the base.

Hofuhrmacher Berlin", blue steel hands. Architectural silver case with folding handle, the front
with a panel decorated in translucent red enamel over an engine turned ground. Applied to this
an art deco style silver repousse design. The alarm strikes on a bell suspended below the case.

56 UNUSUAL WATCH DISPLAY CASE UKP 225
An unusual ebony and ivory watch display case in the form of a bow topped chest. Constructed
of satinwood with a thick veneer of ebony. The outside of the box is overlaid with ivory
simulating the metal re-enforcements of a full size chest. In the centre of the top a finely pierced
ivory decoration with four similar pieces on each side. Inside the box a hinged stand with
applied pierced ivory decoration, the edges of the box and lid veneered with ebony and inlaid
with ivory.

Condition Very good. Some of the ivory pieces lacking or cracked. The ebony on the outside of

These two movements are only a few numbers apart and are both cylinder escapements by the
same maker. However it is interesting to note the small, but significant differences between them
in the balance spring and escapement.
