A fine early 18th Century English verge in a gilt metal and horn consular case. Deep full plate fire gilt movement with Egyptian pillars. Unusual pierced and engraved winged and masked cock, large diamond endstone in a blue steel setting and two extra steady feet. Silver regulator disc on a pierced and engraved plate. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Signed gilt champleve dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands. Gilt metal consular case covered in horn underpainted with a decorative pattern of fern with a central oak tree. rotating gilt shutter to the winding aperture.

Devereux Bowley 1710 Clockmakers Company 1718 Master 1753. Maker of Repute. The movement of this watch is in outstanding condition. The additional steady feet were rarely used and seldom survive the attention of later watch repairers who often cut them off. The horn covering is probably a later decorative replacement as it is mid 18th Century in style.

An 18th Century English verge with silver champleve dial in silver and tortoiseshell pair cases. Full plate fire gilt movement with square baluster pillars. Pierced and engraved masked cock, silver regulator disc, the edges of the regulator plate and cock decoratively piercd and engraved. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Signed silver champleve dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, blue steel hands. Plain silver inner case with silver pendant and ring bow. The outer with silver bezels and covered in tortoiseshell decorated with silver pique work and a line engraving of a church inlaid with silver.

A large early 19th Century English verge by Barwise in a very heavy silver pair case. Full plate fire gilt movement with round pillars. Pierced and engraved masked cock, silver regulator disc. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. White enamel dial with Roman and small Arabic numerals, gold hands. Very substantial plain matching silver pair cases, silver pendant and bow. Engraved on the back of the outer case a heraldic emblem of a lion, maker's mark "TB".

This watch is unusually large and heavy. It would seem unlikely that it was intended for personal use due to its size and weight. It may have been intended for use on a carriage or was perhaps used by Barwise to demonstrate his workmanship to prospective clients.

An early 19th Century English verge by Barraud in gilt metal pair cases with a watch-paper of the maker. Full plate fusee movement with round pillars. Pierced and engraved round cock with blue steel set diamond endstone, gilt regulator on top plate below the plain three arm gilt balance. White enamel dial with radially set Arabic numerals, gold hands. Matching gilt metal pair cases, maker's mark "TG". In the outer case a watch-paper from the firm of Barrauds & Lund, 41 Cornhill.

Fine serpentine gold hands. Substantial engine turned 18 carat open face case with ribbed middle, reeded pendant and bow, maker's mark "AC". Signed gilt metal cuvette, the number corresponding to that on the movement stamped inside.

14 GUN METAL MYSTERY WATCH UKP 1690

A late 19th Century Swiss mystery watch in a gunmetal case. The gilt cylinder movement is relegated to the crescent shaped portion of the watch between the glass dial and the pendant. Keyless with going barrel, small plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring, polished steel regulator. Glass dial with gilt Roman numerals, engine turned silver masks. The gilt hands are driven by a second glass disc which has a toothed wheel attached to its outer edge that engages the train. The motion work for the hands is set between this glass disc and the dial. There is no provision to set the hands apart from moving them manually, which is common in these watches. Plain gunmetal case with gilt bezels and bow, glazed back and front. Button in the band to release the sprung front cover.

A small late 18th Century French verge in a gold consular case with a gilt chatelaine. Full plate gilt fusee movement. Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Silver regulator dial with blue steel indicator. Round pillars. Winding through the white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, pierced gold hands. Engine turned gold consular case with diamond set bezel. Applied gold decoration to the back and diamond set case button. Gilt chatelaine, hinged waist buckle supporting pierced links from which are supported a small casket shaped pomander and a key. Hinged gilt loop secured by a threaded ring to hang the watch.

The back with a well painted scene of a man and woman holding a baby on the shore with a sailing vessel in the background. The sky in dark blue translucent enamel on an radially engine turned ground.

A rare late 18th Century virgule by Lepine in a gold and enamel open face case. Unusual slim gilt movement, the plate with two large apertures for the barrel and balance. Both are set under polished steel bridges, that for the plain three arm gilt balance with a polished steel coqueret and a blue steel regulator. Winding through the signed white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, fine pierced gold hands. Elegant slim gold and enamel case, the front bezel decorated in a geometric pattern of blue and white champleve enamel. The back with a wide engraved band between two white enamel, the centre decorated in translucent peacock enamel.

A late 19th Century Swiss cylinder with a revolving erotic disc in a gunmetal open face case. Keyless nickelled bar movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator. Plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Unusual enamel dial, the numerals being replaced by playing cards laid out on a mottled yellow ground, pierced gilt hands. Gunmetal open face case with gilt bezels, winding crown and bow. On the reverse of the watch is a small glazed aperture through which can be seen a rotating disc bearing photographically reproduced nudes.

A 19th Century English lever with gold dial in a decorative gold full hunter case. Full plate gilt keywind fusee movement with dust cover. Harrison's maintaining power, English table roller lever escapement. Chased and engraved cock, the foot inscribed "Patent", garnet endstone. Liverpool window jewelling to the pivots including the fusee in a large blue steel setting. Plain three arm gold balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Blue and polished steel Bosley regulator, barrel setup ratchet and spring. Lateral steel stop lever. Attractive three colour gold dial with an eagle chased and engraved at the centre. Subsidiary seconds, applied gold Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Profusely engraved full hunter case with chased and engraved middle, pendant and bow. The back cover depicting two large sailing ships, a fort standing on cliffs in the background. On the front cover an eagle perched on crossed flags bearing stripes. The inner dome engraved "Andrew Orr Native of Glasgow August 14th 1865".

An 18th Century continental chatelaine. Chased and engraved gilt waist buckle hinged to a similarly decorated section from which are suspended five chains. These support another chased and engraved plate attached to which is a hinged loop secured by a threaded ring. Two further chains with similar loops are suspended from the waist buckle, one with a small gilt locket.

50 CUT STEEL CHATELAINE UKP 700

A fine 18th Century English cut steel chatelaine. The sections of the chatelaine are formed from pierced steel to which have been rivetted facetted polished steel pieces to resemble cut stones. Suspended from the large waist buckle are five chains, the outer four holding two double sided swivel seals, a seal with a coat of arms and a fine crank key. The centre chain is consists of two larger pierced steel sections supporting another which has a sprung loop and threaded safety ring for the watch.

An unusual ebony and ivory watch display case in the form of a bow topped chest. Constructed of satinwood with a thick veneer of ebony. The outside of the box is overlaid with ivory simulating the metal re-enforcements of a full size chest. In the centre of the top a finely pierced ivory decoration with four similar pieces on each side. Inside the box a hinged stand with applied pierced ivory decoration, the edges of the box and lid veneered with ebony and inlaid with ivory.
