Index No. A8618 Silver Underpainted Horn Pair Case
A late 18th Century English verge in silver and underpainted horn pair cases depicting Britannia.  Full plate fire gilt movement with round pillars.  Pierced and engraved masked cock, silver regulator disc. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Convex white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, gold hands. Plain silver inner case with silver pendant and bow.  Fine outer case covered with horn underpainted with a depiction of Britannia, a lion at her feet, surveying a three masted ship bearing the red ensign.  Silver bezels and pique pins.

In excellent overall condition.  The horn with only minor cracks and no missing pieces.  The watch is unusually signed and dated for its first female owner, perhaps a gift from a departing Naval officer.
