Index No. A8216 Early Silver and Tortoiseshell Calendar Verge
A late 17th Century English verge with silver champleve calendar dial in silver and tortoiseshell pair cases.  Deep full plate fire gilt movement with tulip pillars.  Fusee and chain with sprung click and ratchet barrel setup between the plates.  Large pierced and engraved bridge cock, pierced and engraved plate for the silver regulator disc  flanked by two lions.  Large light plain steel three arm balance.  Winding through the silver champleve dial, oval aperture above the twelve revealing the gilt calendar ring.  Roman and Arabic numerals, decorative pierced gilt hands.  Silver and tortoiseshell pair cases, inner with engraved monogram below a crown on the back dated 1788, split bezel, maker's mark "ID" in a cartouche.   Fine metal outer case, silver bezels and inlaid decoration of flowers and birds to the tortoiseshell covering.
