Probably made for presentation in the name of the King to an Indian dignitary.  Hugh Gordon (1766 - 1834) was descended from the Gordons of Lesmoir.  The business which started in the late 18th Century was continued by Robert Gordon when Hugh returned to Scotland in 1803.  In 1849 James Gordon entered into partnership with Peter Orr (also of Scottish descent) and in 1863 the firm became P. Orr & Sons.  The company still exists to the present day with six shops in India.  (See Orr and Sons and The Gordons of Manar ).
