Index No. A7927 Rare Bras En L'air Swiss Verge
A late 18th Century Swiss verge with polychrome enamel Bras en L'air dial in a silver open face case.  Full plate gilt fusee movement.  Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three arm steel balance with blue steel spiral hairspring.  Silver regulator dial with gilt indicator.  White enamel dial with unusual form of Bras en L'air mechanism with both hands on the same arbor.  When the pendant is depressed the hands move to indicate the time, Arabic numerals, the hours on the right and minutes on the left.  Wound and set through the decorative polychrome enamel dial depicting a woman in a garden, blue steel hands. Plain silver open face case with ribbed middle, silver push pendant to operate the mechanism.

This is a very rare variation of a Bras en L'air mechanism.  Normally the time is indicated by the arms of a figure which pivot on two separate arbors.  See the Camerer Cuss Book of Antique Watches page 149 for a similar watch by the same maker with an almost identical dial.
