Index No. A7934 Quarter Repeating Gold Repousse Verge
A rare mid 18th Century East European quarter repeating verge in pierced and engraved repousse pair cases.  Full plate fire gilt movement with square baluster pillars.  Pierced and engraved masked cock, pierced and engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc. Fusee and chain with ratchet and click barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm gilt balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Push pendant quarter repeating on a bell in the case.  White enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, fine blue steel beetle and poker hands.  Finely chased and engraved gold repousse pair cases.  The inner case very unusually also bearing a scene of a battle with a church in the background and cartouches of horsemen at the quarters.  The outer chased and engraved with the scene of Diogenes searching for an honest man.  He carries a lamp, the symbol of truth and virtue and his cap is engraved "O Teon Mchel".

Watches from Prague, now in the Czech Republic, are very rare.  This fine example also has the inner case depicting a battle scene with the distinctive twin towers of the Church of Our Lady before Tyn in the background.  The church still dominates the Prague skyline today.
