Index No. A8003 Large Silver Champleve Dial Calendar
A fine large early 18th Century English verge with calendar silver champleve dial in silver pair cases.  Deep full plate fire gilt movement with Egyptian pillars.  Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates.  Pierced and engraved winged cock with mask, pierced and engraved foot.  Plain steel balance, silver regulator disc.  Case latch spring unusually set under the edge of the dial plate.  Signed silver champleve dial, square aperture revealing the day of the month with unusual slot above for adjustment.   Roman and Arabic numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands.  Matching silver pair cases, split bezel on the inner, outer case with seven joint hinge. Maker's mark "TI" below a crown and number corresponding to that on the movement.

A fine watch with a very rare feature allowing the calendar to be set with a pin in a separate slot above the date aperture.  William Kipling, London, 1705 - 1737, listed in Baillies as a fine maker with watches in numerous museums.  His watches often have unusual features, as does this one.  Casemaker Thomas Jenkins working from 1677 to circa 1720 made cases for Quare amongst others.
