Index No. A7721 Silver Pair Cased English Naval Automaton
An unusual late 18th Century English verge with automaton depicting Nelson's victory at the Battle of the Nile.  Full plate fusee movement with round pillars.  Unusual engraved cock with mask, silver regulator on engraved plate and separate plate left vacant for engraving with the retailer's name.  Plain three arm steel balance.  Polychrome enamel dial with offset chapter of Arabic numerals, decorative pierced gilt hands.  The lower part of the dial depicting the battle of the Nile which took place in Aboukir bay in 1798.  The ships of the British fleet on the right and the French on the left, one ablaze. Ships of both nations  move past the oval aperture on a restored disc as the watch runs.   Matching silver pair cases, silver pendant and bow, maker's mark "TC".

An interesting watch produced only a short time after the battle.  See April 2006 NAWCC article about a very similar watch which is in a case by the same maker, Thomas Carpenter, in 1803.
