Index No. A8146 Quarter Repeating Silver Verge
An early 19th Century French quarter repeating verge in a silver gilt open face case.  Full plate gilt fusee movement.  Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with polished steel endstone, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring.  Silver regulator dial with blue steel indicator.  Engraved barrel and repeating mainspring bridges. Push pendant quarter repeating on two steel gongs.  White enamel dial with small signature Arabic numerals, blue steel hands.  Silver gilt open face case, the gilding worn away from the outside leaving a mainly silver appearance.  Engine turned back, ribbed middle, wound through the signed gilt metal cuvette.
SignedBreguet & Fils
Circa 1820
Diameter 57 mm
This watch is probably not one of the many that were given a fake Breguet signature.  The pattern of the engine turned back and design of the movement suggest it is one of the examples that were manufactured outside the workshops but inspected by the company before sale to the public.
