Index No. A7605 Doctors Dial Silver Pair Cased Verge
An unusual late 18th Century English doctor's dial verge in silver pair cases.  Full plate fusee movement with simple engraved table cock.  Large signed gilt plate covering the remainder of the movement, simply engraved around the pillars and regulator square. Plain three arm steel balance. Attractive white enamel dial, large subsidiary for seconds with 'crosshairs', the seconds marking omitted within the chapter above marked in Roman numerals. Blue steel seconds hand, gilt hands. Matching silver pair cases, silver pendant and bow, maker's mark "IW" in a rectangle.

Hallmarked London 1793
Diameter 58 mm
Depth15 mm
This watch is unusual in a number of details.  Although the seconds chapter is larger than normal only its quarters are numbered, not all the seconds are marked and only the five minutes of the upper chapter.  It also does not have a hack mechanism to stop and start the watch.  It would seem that the dial is designed this way purely for aesthetic reasons.  The back of the movement is of an individual design being far more simply decorated than most watches of the period and having no index to the regulator.
