| Britten records Beatson as the signature used by McCabe on his third quality watches. The serial number and date align well with McCabe's numbering and so this may have been produced by the firm. However the use of a diamond and endstones to the escape wheel suggest this is not a low grade watch. Another known example No. 18892 hallmarked 1849 again fits well with the numbering and also has a case made by Cornelius Brook Holiday, (used by McCabe). The casemaker of this watch is Samuel Saltmarsh. |
