Index No. A7424 Gold Fusee English Lever
A 19th Century English lever in a gold open face case.  Full plate gilt keywind fusee movement.  Harrison's maintaining power. Engraved cock with garnet endstone, polished steel regulator with silver sector index on the plate.  Plain three arm gold balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. English table roller lever escapement, escape wheel pivots with endstones. Signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel seconds hand, gilt hands. Later purpose made engine turned 18 carat open face case hallmarked London 1874.  Circular cartouche on the back with engraved monogram, ribbed middle.  Number corresponding to that on the movement, maker's mark "AS" in a rectangle and additionally "IMC" and "S-S".

This is an interesting example of a movement which has probably been returned to McCabe for a replacement case or in exchange for a new watch.  It has been sent to Alfred Stram, the casemaker used by McCabe at this time, who made a case in a later style with bevelled front bezel and flat crystal glass.
