18th Century English ruby cylinders are uncommon.  Eardley Norton, 1762, free of the Clockmakers Company 1770 - 1794.  He was an eminent maker of the late 18th Century and his  name is more often seen on Swiss watches of lesser quality.  The case bears the London hallmark of either 1776 or 1816.  Although a date of 1776 would accord with the date of the movement the style suggests it mas purpose made in the early 19th Century.
