A mid 19th Century English half quarter repeating chronograph by Nicole Nielsen in a gold open face case.  Gilt three quarter plate keyless movement with steel Nicole patent winding work.  Plain cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring.  English table roller lever escapement, escape and lever pivots with endstones.  Slide half quarter repeating on two polished steel gongs. Signed and numbered clip on white enamel dial with flyback centre seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel hands.  Purpose made plain 18 carat open face case, gold slide in the band, the flyback chronograph operated by depressing the crown.  Hinged back, cuvette and front bezel.   Maker's mark "MRM" in a rectangle and London hallmark for 1981

A rare combination of flyback centre seconds chronograph and half quarter repeating made by the firm of Nicole Nielsen who manufactured for many of the eminent watchmaking firms in the second half of the 19th Century.  Adolphe Nicole took out the patent for keyless winding in 1844.  A fine case made for this movement in 1981 by Martin Matthews.
