Index No. A7343 Rare Patent Wind Swiss Lever
A rare late 19th Century Swiss lever with patent automatic bow winding mechanism in a silver open face case.  Gilt split three quarter plate keyless movement with going barrel under a gilt bridge. The train with endstones in gilt settings.  Plain cock with polished steel regulator, plain three arm steel balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Club foot lever escapement. Signed white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, pierced gilt hands. Engine turned silver open face case, the silver bow, linked to the going barrel, winds the watch as it moves backwards and forwards.  Small pull out button in the band at nine o'clock to set the hands.  The silver cuvette engraved "Ancre - No 18".

A rare form of winding mechanism.  It was probably intended to operate in a similar manner to a pedometer, winding the watch as the wearer walked.  The scarcity of the mechanism and low number of the watch indicate it was not very successful.
