A fine mid 18th Century English cylinder in gold and shagreen pair cases.  Full plate fire gilt movement with signed and numbered gilt dust cover, pierced to show the regulator. Square baluster pillars.  Pierced and engraved masked cock with large diamond endstone in a polished steel setting.  Flat polished steel screws, silver regulator disc.  Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Polished steel cylinder, large brass escape wheel, the banking pin in the lower section of the cylinder. White enamel dial with delicate Roman numerals, gold beetle and poker hands.  Plain gold inner case, probably 20 or 22 carat, maker's mark "EB", decorative gold swivel pendant and stirrup bow.  Gilt metal outer case covered in shagreen, the bezels chased.

Hallmarked London 1755
Diameter 49 mm

An excellent example of an early English cylinder watch in outstanding condition.  The shagreen on the outer is undamaged with no signs of wear.  Unusually the shagreen is not decorated with pique pins and there is no indication that any were ever fitted.
