Index No. A8730 Early Quarter Repeating German Verge
A late 17th Century German quarter repeating verge in silver pair cases.  Deep full plate fire gilt movement, Egyptian pillars with pierced galleries above.  Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates.  Pierced and engraved winged cock with mask, garnet endstone, pierced and engraved foot.  Plain gilt balance, silver regulator disc.  Push pendant quarter repeating on a bell in the back of the case.  White enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, decorative gilt hands.  Pierced and engraved silver pair cases, the inner with a deep pierced border of foliate engraving inhabited by animals and birds.  The outer also pierced and engraved having four chased and engraved repousse busts around the back, the centre with chased repousse scene.

German watches of this period are very uncommon.  Lubeck is in North Germany close to the Baltic coast.  A number of makers with this surname are recorded in the area and in nearby Denmark, all later than this watch.
