Index No. A6404 Silver English Pair Cased Verge
A late 17th Century English verge with silver champleve dial in silver pair cases.  Deep full plate fire gilt movement with Egyptian pillars.  Fine large pierced and engraved bridge cock depicting two birds at the centre.  Silver regulator disc on a pierced and engraved plate Large plain four arm steel balance, the arms shaped and cut for the winding square.  Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates.  Signed silver champleve dial in a gilt engraved border.  Roman and Arabic numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands.  Silver pair cases, some light bruising.  Inner case bearing the number of the movement, split bezel, silver pendant and bow.  The silver outer case a replacement bearing London hallmarks for 1708.

David Lestourgeon was the son of a French watchmaker who moved to London in 1681.  He was free of the Clockmakers Company 1698 - 1731.  This watch bears evidence of his continental ancestry in the use of a bridge cock which is very unusual in English watches.
