Index No. A6327 Gold and Enamel English Verge
An early 19th Century English verge in a fine pearl set gold and enamel consular case and protective glazed outer.  Full plate fusee movement with round pillars.  Engraved cock with diamond endstone, gilt regulator on top plate below the plain three arm polished steel balance.  Wound through the unusual white enamel dial, the Roman numerals set upright. Fine gold serpentine hands.   Decorative gold consular case, the front bezel opened by depressing a button in the pendant.  The bezels decorated with dark blue and white enamel bands, each set with a single row of split pearls.  The gold back of the case with applied two colour gold decoration, a floral spray at the centre surrounded by an applied pierced border.  Gold and enamel oval pendant and gold bow, domed plain glass.  Protective outer, unusually both sides with high dome glasses to protect the watch.
SignedSarah Bacon London  - AD1815
Circa 1815
Diameter 52 mm
A very attractive watch which has survived in excellent condition due to the protective outer case.  The gold decoration on the back in particular is unusually crisp.  The movement probably bears the name of the original owner rather than the maker.
