Index No. A6225 Gold and Enamel Verge with Matching Chatelaine
A late 18th Century Swiss verge in a pearl set gold and enamel case with matching chatelaine.  Full plate gilt fusee movement.  Finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with steel coqueret, plain three arm gilt balance with blue steel spiral hairspring.  Silver regulator dial with gilt indicator.  Winding through the white enamel dial, Arabic numerals, fine gold hands.  Fine gold case, the bezels set with split pearls, rectangular gold pendant.  Fully restored polychrome enamel mythological scene depicting the rape of Leda by a swan on a dark translucent blue background over engine turning.  Matching gold and enamel buckle depicting Leda feeding the swan, polished steel clip.  Six link gilt metal chain with screw and hinge clasp.

A fine piece.  The scene appears to have been taken from Corregio's 1531 painting of Leda and the Swan which hangs in the Staatliche Museum, Berlin.
