| A fine example of a mid 18th Century repousse watch showing almost no sign of wear. Thomas Baskerville was free of the Clockmakers Company 1738 - 1752. The scene of Rinaldo and Armida is taken from a painting by Louis Silvestre now in Cliche Bibliotheque Nationale de France. A watch by Quare and Horseman, circa 1725, now in the British Museum, bears the same scene. This has the signature of Ishmael Parbury who died September 1746. Nicholas Chateau took an engraving of the painting of Rinaldo and Armida in 1708. Prints after Silvestre were included in a sale after Parbury's death. |
