Index No. A6002 Rare Silver English Centre Seconds Verge
A rare early 19th Century English centre seconds verge with the regulator on the dial in silver pair cases.   Full plate fire gilt fusee movement of unusual layout.  The barrel is situated opposite the hinge to allow the steel shaft for regulation to pass through the centre of its arbor.  Pierced and engraved masked cock, richly engraved signed plate covering the back of the watch.  Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Lateral steel stop lever.  Rare white enamel dial with centre seconds, and subsidiaries for time and regulation.  Arabic numerals, blue steel seconds hand, gold hands.  Matching silver pair cases, silver oval pendant and bow, maker's mark "HM" in a rectangle.
SignedAlex Trotter   Jedburgh
ConditionHallmarked Birmingham 1810
CaseExcellent.
DialExcellent. Diameter 57 mm
MovementExcellent.
A very unusual dial.  On close inspection it can be seen the regulator subsidiary is not precisely at 6 o'clock.  This is caused by the shaft passing through the centre of the barrel which had to be placed slightly to one side to accommodate the case latch.  The regulator index is marked "SLOW * TASF" - FAST backwards!
