| A late 19th Century pocket chronometer movement mounted in a ships chronometer bowl. Keywind gilt bar movement with going barrel. Plain cock with polished steel regulator. Compensation balance with blue steel overcoil hairspring. Spring detent Earnshaw chronometer escapement, the foot of the detent an unusual wide bridge, escape pivots with endstones. Large signed and numbered silvered dial with subsidiary seconds, Arabic numerals, blue steel hands. Fitted in a large circular case for use in a gimbaled marine chronometer box, screw on bezel and deep weighted back with sprung winding shutter. | ||

| The movement ebauche's continental origins are evident from the markings on the regulator. However it was almost certainly fitted with the escapement and finished in England from the use of a spring detent. The movement would have been fitted out for military use as part of a scheme to quickly provide enough accurate timekeepers in the early years of the war. |
